Barbara Nell Prince

Barbara Nell Prince passed away at her home in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the age of 94 years.

Barbara is the daughter of O. D. ‘Odie’ Turpin and Cecil Clarice (Votaw) Turpin, born on November 22, 1929, in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. Her early years were spent in the Earlsboro and St. Louis area until the family moved to Stonewall, where Barbara graduated Stonewall High School with the Class of 1948. She attended Hill’s Business College in Oklahoma City and graduated in 1950.

She was employed for a few years in the early 1960s at First National Bank of Holdenville, and then went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a caseworker, retiring after twenty-two years in 1985.

Barbara enjoyed being outside. In her younger years she loved riding her horse, Tony.

She loved working in the yard, gardening in particular, both flowers and vegetables. She loved family gatherings.

She was a member of the 4th & Broadway Church of Christ until it closed and she transferred her membership to the East Main Church of Christ, where she attended faithfully until her health failed. She had a smile for everyone and a quiet and gentle nature that was loved by everyone who knew her. She will be missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Odie and Cecil Turpin; her daughter, Sheryl Gammons; two sisters, Charlene Turpin and LeVelle Hill; and one brother, Ray ‘Frog’ Turpin.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Gail Prince of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren: Shannon Davis of Shawnee, Russell Prince (Mary) of Lithia Florida, Stacee Rosenberg (Joe) of Colorado Springs, Jace Prince (Kerri) of Edmond, Rex Gammons (Darline) of Spaulding, and Kari Gammons Phillips of Dallas, Texas; thirteen greatgrandchildren; one sister, Sherry Stonecipher (Paul Newport) of McAlester; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19th, 10:30 am at Fisher Funeral Home-Lillye Chapel, and Barbara will be laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery, with Mr. Terry Newell officiating. http://www. fisherfh.net
