Newman Thompson, Jr.

Newman Thompson Jr., a resident of Henryetta, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas at the age of 82. He was born March 7, 1938 in Pierce, Oklahoma to Newman Thompson Sr. and Cinda (Sootawakey) Thompson.

H e served in the US Marines and was a member of the American Legion and The VFW. He was also a member of the Arbeka Ceremonial Grounds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois Thompson, brothers; Emmanuel, Russell, Henry, and Daniel Bodie Thompson, sisters; Bessie Freeman and Ethel Wyatt as well as one grandson, Jerrod White.

Newman is survived by his son, Steven Thompson of the home, daughter, Dierdra Thompson of Coweta, son, Jeffrey Thompson of Reno Nevada, grandchildren; Aaron Soap of Durant, Laurisa Soap and fiance, Joshua Roberts of Okmulgee, Emery Soap of Muskogee, and Ashley Pigeon of Weleetka, three great-grandchildren; Xayvior Soap Ezekiel Soap, and Kian Roberts, brother, Marshall Thompson of Idabel, sister, Etta Dickerson of Sapulpa, sister, Sarah Thompson of Tulsa, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Newman and Steven were held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the family home at 113839 S. 3970 Road, Henryetta, Oklahoma with Brother Grover Wind, officiating. Interment followed at the Thompson Family Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
