Makai Lee Blades Indoor Track at Pitt State

Donnie and Shirley Nero are proud grandparents of Maki Blades who is attending Pittsburg State University on a track scholarship. The Nero’s traveled to Pitt to watch Makai participate in the first indoor Crimson and Gold Invitational on the Harvey Dean Track. Makai ran one of his best races, receiving first place in the 200-meter dash. He also placed in the top ten of the 60-meter and 4 x 4 relay. In all, 1,000 athletes participated the field and track events. While there, the Nero’s visited with Shirley’s high school basketball coach Harvey Dean whom the indoor track is named.

Clearview Community Holiday Dinner

The Boley Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha donated monies to the towns of Boley and Clearview to assist anyone in need in their communities. Each year, as their community service project, they donate during the holidays to serve a community. This year, Alpha Phi Alpha members, Dr. Claud Evans, chose to contribute a portion of the donation to food baskets for individuals in the Boley community. Dr. Donnie Nero chose a portion of the contribution to host a Clearview Holiday Dinner onDecember15. InClearview,the OHCE Brown Suggas volunteered to prepare and serve the meal of beans (brown, white, and chili), cornbread, fried chicken, desserts, and drinks. Those Brown Suggas included Elayne Evans, Ethelene Scott, Joyce Barrett, Helen Bush, and Shirley Nero. December 15th was Shirley Nero’s birthday. During the dinner, Elayne Evans surprised her with a German Chocolate cake and birthday card signed by all in attendance. The dinner served as estimated thirty people in attendance and carry outs. Thanks to the Boley Alpha Phi Alpha chapter for their generosity in helping the communities.
