A Black Town Tour

Urma Falkner Goodrich and Laura Montgomery decided on Saturday to drive to Boley and Clearview to tour the Black Towns. Both ladies met in Tulsa as teachers in the Tulsa Public School system and now are retired. They have remained friends and have a new adventure, that is learning the history of Oklahoma, particularly the history of historic Black towns. On this visit, they met with the mayors and visited the first and only Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, Inc. located in Clearview. They met with Dr. Donnie Nero, president of the organization, who guided them through the museum, and he also gave them a history of the town of Clearview. Shirley Nero joined the touring group later to continue with the history of the town. After the tour, Mayor Marilyn Jackson met the ladies at Wanda Jean’s restaurant for a late lunch to continue building on a lasting relationship with them. Jackson found out she knew Mrs. Montgomery from her days of living in Okmulgee and being educators together.
