From famous musicians to local business owners to retirement!

There are some places where it is often unnoticed when an established and familiar business changes ownership or disappears from the scene. But not in our town, because this is Holdenville, Oklahoma USA, where not only are the places familiar, but so are the faces - faces of friends and neighbors who’ve long been in those places, providing essential services to our community over the years. Hometown folks like Gary and Ricki Sullivan, who for many years have owned and operated various enterprises at the prime location of 601 North Hinckley Street in Holdenville. And now they’ve decided it’s time to slow down, so they’re going to sell their building, along with a long, long list of tools and equipment and a whole lot more at auction this coming Saturday, September 11, 2021, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Labor Day Weekend in Clearview - the Golden Family Reunion

One of the largest and longest running family reunions around is the Dollie Golden family reunion held each Labor Day weekend in Clearview. Dollie Golden and her mate Ashford T. Minor along with their nine children moved from Texas to Indian Territory around 1902 or 1903 to the Clearview area to begin a new life. They had one more child, Porter, who was born in December 1907. They referred to him as the statehood baby. Ashford died in 1913, and was taken back to Austin, Texas for burial. Dollie remained in Clearview until her death in 1953. It was estimated she was born near the year of 1864 or 1865. When one of her youngest daughter, Dollie (heer name was Dollie also) married Caleb Sims who wanted to move to California, Grandma Golden, as she was referred to most often, gave him permission to marry, she told him he had to bring her back at least once a year for a visit. This was in 1924. He kept his promised. This return visit of family get-togethers of cake and ice cream and visitations with Caleb and Dollie Sims evolved into a family reunion that has lasted for over 90 years, each year in the town of Clearview and with the favorite dessert of ice cream and cake. The only time the family has missed a year was last year due to COVID restrictions. Highlights of the Golden Reunion in photos.
