Hughes County 4-H Share the Fun was held on Tuesday, January 21st at 6pm in the Holdenville High School Auditorium. Stuart School sent several participants including instrumentalists Liam McMahan, Finley McMahan, Genna Haney, and Geralyn Haney; vocalists Alexia Chavarria and Lydia Richardson; dancers Emma Ridenour and Lydia Richardson, and 2 skit performances by previously listed members plus Jayeanna Walling, Quinn Davison, and Paisley Schoggins.

Mrs. Charlotte Louise Jackson Walker was born August 15, 1915 to Floyd and Dessie Marina Jackson in Clearview, Oklahoma who were farmers in the area. She was the oldest daughter of six sisters and six brothers. She attended and graduated from Douglass Rosenwald High School in Clearview in 1927. After graduation, she worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City to earn money to attend Langston University. She was admitted to Langston University on September 12, 1935 and attended until her money was depleted. Mrs. Jackson would return to Tinker to work and later return to Langston, finally completing her Lifetime teaching certificate for grades 1 through 8 grade and a degree in Home Economics on July 21, 1944.

The Town of Clearview received a grant to increase the size of the men’s and women’s bathrooms at the Main Street Community Building. The building will soon have four-bathroom stalls and two sinks in each of the bathrooms. Riddle Construction of Weleetka will begin the construction in late March. The building has a capacity to seat up to 150 people with a fully equipped kitchen. It is available for rental for reunions, birthday parties, meeting, etc. In addition, the Town Hall meetings and the Clearview OHC hold their monthly meetings there. The Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, Inc. is located in the building and it is a favorite tourist attraction. Anyone interested in a rental of the building may contact Shirley Nero at 918-698-6037.
