John Thomas Vail

A funeral service honoring and celebrating the life of John Thomas Vail was held Tuesday, October 27th , at the First Baptist Church of Glenpool with a committal immediately following the service at Bixby Cemetery.

John Thomas Vail died in Tulsa on October 22, 2020 at the age of 76. He was born June 12, 1944 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Luther Noble Vail and Lela Mae Horn. Johnny moved to Glenpool in the 5th grade where he met his wife, Sue, and attended Glenpool schools until he graduated in 1962.

After graduating he attended Bacone College in Muskogee for two years on a basketball scholarship where he obtained his Associates in Business. During summer months throughout his high school and college years he worked with his own hay hauling operation and crew. Johnny always had money in his pocket since he was 10 years old whether the job was working on the family dairy farm, hauling hay or other various jobs around Glenpool

He was a veteran of the US Army after he was drafted in 1966. He was stationed at Fort Polk and then went to Vietnam for one tour. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

He married Andrea Sue Phillips on June 8, 1970 in Wichita Falls, Texas. John retired from Asbestos Workers Local 94, out of Oklahoma City, as a commercial insulator after 45 years.

Johnny enjoyed working on the farm, raising his cattle, and spending time with his family and friends. John loved the holidays with his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. John made friends wherever he went.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of 50 years, out of Milfay, Oklahoma; son Christopher and wife Mary of Stroud; daughter Andrea and husband Eddie Woodson of Glenpool; four grandchildren, Katie and husband Matt Allen of Texas, Thomas Blake Smith of Milfay, Declan Vail of Stroud, and Michael Woodson of Glenpool; one great-grandchild, Carsyn Vail of Texas; siblings Mary Anne and husband Bill Giles of Newcastle, Macki Vail land Sue Morrisett, both of Tulsa; many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Luther; mother, Lela; and siblings Frankie, Paul, Don, Dorotha and Barbara.
