Service slated for WWII Veteran Harold Lee Davis

Harold Lee Davis was born on May 24, 1919 and died on September 23, 2018 at 5:05 PM. He was 99 at the time of his death. Harold was a long time resident of Holden-ville and was raised at Spaulding, OK. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mason Davis, his father Fred Lee Davis and mother Anna Pearl Gallimore Davis both of Spaulding. He is survived by two sons, Harold Mason (Skeeter) Davis and Brent Lee Davis of the home, and one grandson, Ryan Lee Davis of Weleetka, OK.

After graduating from Spaulding High School he enrolled at East Central State College but left as World War II started, joining the United States Coast Guard. He served in the Coast Guard till the end of the war and was honorably discharged. He met Helen Louise Mason in 1943 and they were married in McAlester, OK on September 18, 1943. They lived in south Florida till the end of the war. They returned to Holdenville and he eventually went to work for Brown and Root Construction in Arkansas on the Bull Shoals Dam and then Nebraska on the Frenchmen’s Creek Dam. They returned to Holden-ville after the Nebraska dam was finished and established a home here.

Harold was subsequently employed by Brewer & McMichael Construction, later Brewer & Anderson, for many years as a bridge superintendent. After he retired he and Veldo Brewer went into business buying defunct railroads and selling the component parts.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and collecting many types of antiques. He cared for his wife, at home, for almost 10 years, after she became ill.

He was a member of the American Legion Thomas Buckley Breeding Post No. 32 and was active as an officer of that organization. He was a member of Friends of the Library and the Hughes County Historical Society.

A memorial service will be held October 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Holdenville Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Dane Robinson and Bill Robinson will officiate.
