Opera singer Leona Mitchell was born October 13, 1949, in Enid, Oklahoma, as the tenth child of fifteen children of Rev. Hulon and Dr. Pearl Olive Leatherman Mitchell.

On December 28, 1921, Joseph and Rebecca Marks welcomed a little girl into their family. Martha, born one of eighteen children, grew up in Clearview and attended Clearview schools. After graduation, Martha married Ralph Bradley Sr.

Two months ago, Bobbie Melvin made his usual once every two-month track from Temple Hills, Maryland to visit his brother in Texas. While traveling through Oklahoma, he decided to visit the Black towns he had read about.

STUART ELEMENTARY STUDENT’S ESSAY HEADED TO STATE CONTEST—Genna Haney, a 6th grader at Stuart Elementary, was recently named the Area 5 winner of the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts Essay Contest. She had placed 1st in the Hughes County Conservation District this fall.
