ENJOYING THE RECENT GERTY REUNION WERE: (front row) Loie Kay Sumner and Doris (Sumner) Lewis. (back row) Ernest Sumner, Claude Sumner and Twila (Sumner) Thornton. It was a great reunion for all, but especially for Doris, who graduated 70 years ago and Claude who graduated 60 years ago. 

The Hughes County Commissioners met for their regular weekly meeting Monday Aug. 23, 2021.

The 2021 Gerty Day reunion was enjoyed by 53 local residents and former grads. The event was held June 26th in the Gerty Community Building and attendees enjoyed a potluck meal as well as a day of visiting and reminiscing.

The Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Band has recently acquired the Thomas Smith Cemetery, Located at 20989 E 41 ST S, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma,74014. The cemetery is the resting place for many original enrolled Creek Freedmen of the Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma.

Happy 90th Birthday to Alpheus Grundy on August 20th. Mr. Grundy said he had one of the best days his life. Family and friends drove by his home, waving and honking their horns as he sat in his chair on the lawn waving with a huge smile on his face.

We sat around the living room, trying to be productive while facing death. The date was Wednesday, October 28, 2020, and tomorrow would be my Mother’s long-awaited funeral.
