    The Vernon community joins those across the state in mourning the loss of a visionary pioneer. Andre Head died following after contracting and battling COVID-19 on November 26, 2020. The Vernon Community recently learned of his tragic death in the December 17th issue of the Black Chronicle.

    McIntosh County loses one of its top lawmen to COVID-19. The Vernon Community has learned through the Indian Journal December 17th, issue that Chief Deputy Lindal Dewayne Hall has died of the coronavirus. The Vernon Community joins in the county wide mourning.

    Stuart Lady Hornets named to Pitt 8 All-Conference team

    Five members of the State Tournament qualifying Stuart Lady Hornets Fastpitch softball team were named to the PITT All Conference team and Head Coach Chance Chapman was named PITT 8 Coach of the Year for Fall 2020. All five ladies were chosen for the MCN All Area team as well.

    Goon Golden: Oklahoma’s last known negro baseball league player

    Oklahoma’s last known Negro Baseball League player Eugene Golden was laid to rest recently in Weleetka, Oklahoma. Eugene Golden, was born in 1925 Clearview, Oklahoma to Ashford T. Golden and Julia A. (Roberson) Golden. At age 95, Goon passed this life into the next, December 23, 2020.
