The following is the “Return to Learn” plan released by Wetumka Schools. This is a living document and subject to change.

On June 27 th , the “young at heart” group traveled to the “Lake Café.” Five miles east of Eufaula, OK for our quarterly luncheon. We each enjoyed a wonderful meal. The service was great.

Intro Planning for the 2020-2021 school year has been and continues to be different and more difficult than the start of other school years in the past. We are aware that this school year likely will have disruptions to instruction due to COVID-19.

The Wetumka City Council held their regular scheduled meeting on Monday, August 10, 2020. Those present at the time of roll call were Donna Dyer, Josh Howk, Richard Roush, Norma Marshall, Mayor, John Baca, city attorney, and Sherri Smith, Treasurer/interim City Manager. June Fixico arrived late.

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, Glenn William Herrod was riding a bicycle on SH 9, approximately 1.7 miles west of Wetumka in Hughes County. He was traveling eastbound towards Wetumka when he was struck by a vehicle.

There’s an unofficial season on bullfrogs that begins sometime in early summer and runs into the dove season in September. Most anyone who has savored frog legs will consider the sport, given the opportunity. And from all accounts, it exists at many remote ponds and marshes.

The first African American newspaper of record in Oklahoma history was the Oklahoma Guide, a monthly, sporadically published in 1889. Thus, the black press in Oklahoma paralleled the opening of the territory in 1889. The Guide was followed in 1891 by the Langston Herald, the first weekly.

Early in 2020, the Town of Clearview received a $30,000 grant to upgrade the men’s and women’s bathrooms at the Clearview Main Street Community Center. The bathrooms needed handicapped stalls and additional stalls and sinks. The grant did not cover the entire cost.
