Stitt’s Education Focus: Parents, Teachers, Outcomes

Gov. Kevin Stitt said improving education is the key to Oklahoma’s long-term future, and that his efforts are focused on parents, teachers and—ultimately— boosting student achievement. “We can’t be a top 10 state—we all agree on this—without a top 10 education system,” Stitt said. Stitt discussed his education agenda in a discussion moderated by Daniel Hamlin, an assistant professor and director of social science and policy research at the Oklahoma Leadership and Policy Center for Thriving Schools and Communities (THRIVE) at the University of Oklahoma.

Donnie and Shirley Nero East Central University Homecoming

Donnie and Shirley Nero returned to their Alma mater East Central University to attend homecoming activities. They are members of the East Central Alumni and the East Central Black Alumni Association. Numerous activities were planned beginning Friday and concluding with Sunday morning church services.

TAX COMMISSION: INDIANS NOT EXEMPT FROM OKLAHOMA TAX

Although the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s reservation still exists in Oklahoma for purposes of a federal crime law, a subsequent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court also means most tribal members living in Oklahoma still have to pay state taxes, according to a new Oklahoma Tax Commission ruling.

Chieftains Win Again!

Thursday night the Wetumka Chieftains found themselves in a victorious win over the Strother Yellowjackets. The 2nd district contest for the Chieftains proved that in Wetumka football means business. With nearly 300 (297) Rushing yards, and 67 passing yards the Chieftains Put 55 points on the board and ended the game in the middle of the 3rd quarter! The Chieftains are now 3-0 in district play and 5-1 regular season. Junior standout Alex Allford will come away with the CSN Offensive player of the game, scoring 3 touchdowns for the Chieftains Allford had 5 carries for a total of 84 yards and two touchdown receptions for 33 yards. A team effort in scoring throughout the night, Lineman of the week and Senior Hayden Hobia had the opportunity to put some point on the board for the Cheiftains as well. Proving to be a great asset for the program senior Alisha Dindy, Kicked 2 P.A.T’s for the Chieftains earning her the special teams player of the game.
