Alfred Reginald Brown, Sr. went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 25, 2023. Alfred was born on April 11, 1950, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was the firstborn son to Deacon Willie and Missionary Estella Brown.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Harold Brown, and two sisters, Stella Brown-O’Guinn and Frankie C.

Brown; his halfsisters Claretta Newson- Reese, Margret H. Brady, Elzora Cramer, and Beverly Brissett; his half-brothers Kenneth and Leonard C. Brown; son Michael “Buffy” Smith; and grandson Elias Powell.

As a child, Alfred accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Alfred began his high school education at Lincoln High School during the years of segregation, and when segregation ended Alfred attended and graduated from Holdenville High School (HHS) in 1969. Alfred was very talented, and received awards in vocal music, sports, and academics. He was inducted into the HHS Hall of Fame.

After graduating high school, Alfred lived in California for several years before moving to Wichita, Kansas where he lived, met and married the love of his life, Shirley M. Brown. The couple was married for over 30 years, until his death.

Alfred was ordained as minister on July 27, 1997. During that time, he became Senior Pastor of God’s Love Always House of Prayer, a nondenominational church in Wichita, Kansas. Pastor Al was known as a jack-of-alltrades. He could fix anything and loved teaching you how to fix things too. But more than anything he loved to preach. Alfred leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Shirley M. Brown, of Wichita, Kansas; his sons and daughters Alfred R. Brown Jr. of Stockton, California, Jade Jordan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Carlos (Jodi) Smith, of Wichita, Kansas, Darla Mitchell, Toni Smith, and Patience Smith all of Wichita, Kansas, his brother Rev. Robert B. Brown, Shawnee, sisters Willa Mae Brown, Vallejo, California, Brenda Ann Lewis, Bakersfield, California, and Shelly Lynn Parker, Bowie, Maryland; and his half-sisters and brothers Liz Campbell, Holdenville, Willy Joyce Webb, Oklahoma City, Rev. Floyd E. Brown, Tulsa, and Rev. Billy Brown, Oklahoma City.

Also cherishing his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, many other relatives, as well as extended family and friends. Viewing will be 9:00am-11:00am, Saturday, October 7th, at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 7th, at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Interment to follow at Buckner Cemetery, Holdenville, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.
