Avis Oleta Moses

Avis Oleta Moses was born April 3, 1925 in the Big Springs Community, Hughes County, Oklahoma to Ernest Robertson and Orpha (Abel) Robertson and passed from this life May 16, 2022 in Holdenville at the age of 97.

Avis was raised in Hughes County and attended all twelve years of her schooling at Fairview School. On December 19, 1941 she married James Moses, Jr. in Holdenville. They made Wetumka their lifelong home. Avis is remembered as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.

She made a profession of faith in Christ at the age of 16 at the Big Springs Missionary Baptist Church where she was also baptized. She was later a member of the Free Will Baptist Church for more than 55 years. Avis loved to cook, mow grass, and take care of animals.

She was preceded in death by her son, Cpl. Leslie Don Moses, who gave his life in Vietnam on November 6, 1966, and by her husband, Junior.

Survivors include: a son, Phillip Wendell Moses, and wife, Margaret, of Hurst, TX; a granddaughter, Hollie Manka, and husband, David, of Midwest City, and a grandson, Don Moses, of Del City; four step-grandchildren, Tommy Applin of Palestine, TX, Hatti San Miguel of Hurst, TX, Edward Applin of Hurst, TX, and Steven Applin and wife Toni of Keller, TX; seven great grandchildren; a special adopted daughter, Shirley Carpenter, of Holdenville; along with several other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be today, Thursday, May 19 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home in Wetumka.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Spradlin Memorial Chapel at Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home in Wetumka with Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Interment will be in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home.
