Brixie Mabel Bishop passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, at her home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 89.

Brixie was born December 4, 1932 in Claremore, Oklahoma to David Hull Nickerson and Fannie Mable (Basham) Nickerson.

Brixie attended Claremore public schools for most of her education.

She and her family moved to Long Beach, California during her youth, where she had fond memories of body surfing, and spending time on the Pike, until her family returned to Claremore.

Brixie married Bert Bishop in Vinita, Oklahoma in 1954. Together, she and her husband raised six children.

She took to being a homemaker and saw it as a job to which her family feels she greatly excelled.

She was a chaperone for school activities, transported athletes, never missing any school events her children were a part of, supporting them in all their school and personal endeavors.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma where she taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School.

She loved flowers, especially yellow roses, loved babies, and music, and was a voracious reader. Some of her favorite music artists were Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and band marches.

She dedicated her life to her family. “All I ever wanted was to be a mother” was a statement she made frequently that exemplified the love she felt for herchildren, and their families. She was adored and admired by her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

Brixie was preceded in death by her parents David and Fannie Nickerson; husband Bert Bishop; siblings Kinnith Nickerson, Bob Nickerson, Gloria Reed, Ida Fagan, and infant sister Betty Helen Nickerson; and grandchild Alexandra Brasher.

She is survived by her children Brenda Smith and husband Terry of Custer City, Race Bishop and wife Cathy of Dustin, Rick Bishop and wife Nada of Wetumka, Bert Bishop and Mona Legere of Edmond, Kerry Johns and husband Gary of Oklahoma City, and Sherri McKibbin and husband Scott of Owasso; ten grandchildren and numerous greatgrandchildren. Brixie is also survived by numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13 th , at Carson Baptist Church in Carson, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Lamar Cemetery, Lamar, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers are grandsons Brandon Bishop, Caelan Brasher and Barron Bishop, great-grandson Destry Smith, nephew Shan Reed, and son-in-law Gary Johns.

Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters Fohnta Slater, Ivory Hairrell, Shannon Brasher, and Kathleen Brasher.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
