Deryln Fountain Pope

Deryln Fountain Pope, 75, of Holdenville, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022, with her husband and daughter by her side.

Deryln was born February 8, 1947 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Deryl Fountain and Beverly (Booth) Fountain. She met her beloved David, on June 23, 1970 in Louisville, Kentucky, at an annual Baptist meeting. They had an immediate connection and fell deeply in love. They lived several states apart, shared love letters, arranged to be counselors at a Christian camp together, and continued their correspondence. They soon knew they were soulmates and married just a few months later in Rock Island, Illinois. Three years later they started their family with the birth of their baby girl, Davida.

Deryln was a devoted wife, mother, loyal friend, and surrogate mother to her cousins. Her greatest joy and purpose was loving her husband and daughter and building a lifetime of memories, comfort and support for them. She was a best friend, nurturer, protector, and supporter to both David and Davida. Her heart belonged with her husband from the day they started their lives together, September 10, 1970, until she took her last breath on September 10, 2022, which was on their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Deryln was an introvert, but she loved spending quality time with her circle of friends. She was witty, clever, fun-loving, and cared about the struggles her friends were experiencing. She was intentional in her actions of friendship and love. Deryln possessed an extraordinary amount of wisdom. Her best words of wisdom to her daughter and a handful of her daughter’s best friends was “Bloom where you are planted.” One of Davida’s best friends described her as “A beautiful woman who impacted the Lord’s kingdom from behind the scenes.”

Deryln was a talented artist. She expressed her creativity in painting, sketching, quilting, and adult coloring books. She had a vast knowledge of color theory and an eye for detail that was evident in her artwork. Art and color were her passions. She was delighted by colors. She noticed all the complex colors and patterns in nature. She cherished her fabrics, paints, and colored pencils.

In her young adult years, she was a talented seamstress. She sewed many dresses for her professional wardrobe and matching outfits with her daughter. She was an avid book reader. Her favorite genres were historical fiction, southern fiction, crimes and mysteries, and biographies of historical figures. She loved observing God’s creation. Although she loved many things we find in nature, her favorite thing was trees. She was fascinated with their intricacies and intensely studied them. Trees were inspiration for some of her artwork.

Deryln was a homemaker and was dedicated to organization and keeping the family orders intact. She planned the family meals up to two weeks in advance and kept the family’s calendar and finances balanced. She loved to bake cookies, brownies, tiger butter and birthday cakes. She loved to can vegetables and make apple butter and jams. Deryln was a bookkeeper for many years and she ended her career working proudly for the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Deryln is preceded in death by her parents; Deryl and Beverly Fountain. She is survived by her husband David Pope of the home, daughter Davida Pope and future son-in-law Doug Bradley.

Private family viewing will be Thursday. September 15th.

A service celebrating her life will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 16th, at the First Baptist Church of Holdenville with Dr. Johnny Pope officiating.
