Gerald Dewayne Scroggins passed away peacefully at his home in Morrison, OK on April 11, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born on January 15, 1936, in Holdenville, OK to Fay and Edith (Price) Scroggins. Gerald was born the oldest of three children. He graduated from Holdenville High School in 1954. His first job after high school was with the Seismograph Service Corporation. He married Winnie Easley and they had three sons, Randy, David and Marc.

In 1963 he began his career with the United States Geological Survey as a topographical surveyor, where he traveled the United States with a total of 61 moves until he retired in 1994. In 1976 he married Janice Wolf -Thurber and they have been married 46 years. From this marriage he gained two bonus sons, Terry and James Thurber. Gerald was a Master Mason for 50 years. He was also a very active member and enjoyed the fellowship of the Rolling Okies RV Club for 19 years. After retirement in 1994, Gerald and Janice moved to the Wolf family farm where they enjoyed farming and ranching. One of Gerald’s greatest joys was raising his beloved cows, all who had names. He was thrilled when they would come to him by name, and they would also show him where they had their newborn calves. He always had a cow story for anyone interested in hearing them. Gerald loved family gatherings and telling old time stories and always had a joke or two to throw in. He always gave everyone a nickname and he had a few himself such as papa, peanut pappy, ornery and GD. During his travels he loved making new friends and was dearly loved and made a joyful place in the hearts of many.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bonita Triplett and her husband Harland and their baby boy; a son Thomas Randall (Randy) Scroggins and bonus son Terry Lynn Thurber. He is survived by his wife Janice Wolf Scroggins of the home; sister Phyllis (baby sister) Lynch and Leland of Broken Arrow, OK; two sons: David Scroggins and Diane of Cushing, OK and Marc Scroggins of Trophy Club, TX; bonus son James Thurber and Cindy of Morrison, OK. Grandchildren: Thomas Randall (Tommy) Scroggins Jr. of Cushing, OK; Dustin Spencer of Tulsa, OK; Haley Scroggins and fiancé Jacob Zapata of Charlotte, NC and Zach Scroggins of Dallas, TX. Bonus grandchildren are Terry (TJ) Thurber and Stevphanie of Yale, OK; Leslea Spears and Michael of Pawnee, OK; Maverick Thurber and Kayley of Morrison, OK; 6 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and four nieces. He is also survived by brothers from another mother, Dwayne Easley of Elk Hart, TX and WR (Mac) McFarland of Munising, MI and a host of friends and family.

Papa was a member of the Masham Baptist Church and loved his Pastor, Johnny Wagner. He willingly accepted God’s call to come home to his eternal resting place. He was a true believer and encouraged others to do the same. His greatest wish is that they would hear the message and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
