Gerald Warren Huckleberry

Gerald Warren Huckleberry was born August 23, 1944 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to James Herman and Inalee (Neal) Huckleberry and passed from this life October 10, 2021 at his home in Valliant, Oklahoma at the age of 77.

Gerald was raised in Apache, Oklahoma and attended Apache School. He was a 1962 graduate of Apache High School. As a young man he became involved in funeral service at the local Apache funeral home. In 1971 he enrolled in the Mortuary Science department at the University of Central Oklahoma. He worked at the Ben V. Hunter Funeral Home in Oklahoma City before moving to Wetumka where he opened Huckleberry Funeral Service. He later owned funeral homes in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma City, and for the past thirty-two years in Valliant.

In 1970 he married Barbara Diacon in Oklahoma City and she was his lifelong partner in funeral service. He and Barbara had one son together, Sean, who preceded him in death in 2017. A brother James David (Buck) Huckleberry also died earlier.

Gerald is remembered as a great story teller, sharing them orally and by writing them down. Some of his stories were made into movies, some of which won several independent film awards. He dearly loved participating in the film industry. He also enjoyed horses, race cars, and buying and selling used cars.

Survivors include: his wife Barbara of the home; a son, Robert Huckleberry (Jennifer) of Arizona; 2 step-daughters, Patricia Richmond (Randall) of Wetumka and Jacki Martin (David) of Dustin; 2 sisters Helen Beavers of Lawton and Ramona Penny of Texas; his grandchildren, Randy Richmond (Trischa) of Wisconsin, Jill Neese (Marcus), Hillary Allen (Michael), April Fields, Chad Price, Hillary Martin, Ethan Price (Ashley), Leon Martin, Tristan Huckleberry, and Samantha Huckleberry, all of Oklahoma, Tyler and Jacob Huckleberry of Nebraska and Emma Rose of Arizona; his great grandchildren, Addysen and Sofia Richmond, Natalie and Creed Neese, Kinlee and Attlee Allen, Rylan, Kyndrick, Mckenzlie, and Easton Martin, Asher Hicks, Kasen Fields, Stetson and Margaret Price, and Hunter Martin; along with many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wetumka Assembly of God Church with Rev. Mike Mings, Rev. Larry Matthiesen, and Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Pallbearers will be Tristan, Tyler, and Jacob Huckleberry, Melvin Lake, Andrew Beach, and Ethan and Chad Price. Interment will be in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home.
