Imogene Skipworth

Imogene Skipworth passed away in Oklahoma City on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

Imogene was the daughter of George and Anna (Harper) Barker, born on June 14, 1933, in Grahn, Kentucky. At age six she moved with her family to Ironton, Ohio, where she attended schools and lived until she was 38 years old. She was married to Jesse Lee Skipworth on September 2, 1965, in Cattlesburg, Kentucky. They moved around from Lamar to Carson to Wetumka and back to Lamar in 1976, and enjoyed 35 years together before Jesse passed away on July 12, 2000. Imogene stayed in their home in Lamar for the next 13 years, until she moved to Holdenville in 2013.

She worked at several occupations including CNA at various hospitals, waitress at various restaurants, cooking for Moss Schools and for Boy Scout Camp, and home care for the elderly. She attended the Lamar Pentecostal Church. What she loved most was taking care of the most important thing in her life, and that was her family that she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Anna Barker; her husband, Jesse Skipworth; one brother, Howard Barker; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lambers and Delores Adams.

She is survived by three children, Rhonda Skipworth (David Dudding) of Holdenville, Charles E. ‘Butch’ Skipworth (Pamela) of Horntown, and Jami Lee Skipworth (Michelle) of Holdenville; five grandchildren, Heather Jean Herrick of Eauclaire, Wisconsin, Tamara Berry of Paden, Felicia Skipworth of Holdenville, Jeremy Skipworth of Horntown, and Brittany Skipworth (Nicholas Johnson) of Holdenville; seven greatgrandchildren, Dillon Herrick (Janelle), Kylie Berry, Bryar Berry, Austin Hearn, Sophie Skipworth, Weston Myles, and Merci Johnson; one brother, Owen Barker (KoWanda) of Hamilton, Kansas; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.

Services will be held at the Lamar Senior Citizens Center/Old School House on Saturday, March 4th, beginning with a meal served at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. and Imogene will be laid to rest at Lamar Cemetery. Rev. Tony Chesser and Rev. Marla Chesser are the officiating ministers. Pallbearers are Butch Skipworth, Jami Skipworth, Jeremy Skipworth, Bryar Berry, Austin Hearn, and Dillon Herrick.

Viewing at the Fisher Funeral Home will be Thursday, March 2nd, 10am till 5pm, and Friday, March 3, 10am till 8pm.
