Joseph Gilbert ‘Jody Blonde’ Bennett passed away at home in Horntown, Oklahoma on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 82.

Joseph was the son of William Herbert Bennett and Orvilla (Sweetin) Bennett, born on September 13, 1940, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in Calvin, and graduated Calvin High School with the Class of 1959. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam era, and later served for three years in the Oklahoma National Guard. He attended Rose State College in Midwest City, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Psychology. He was married to Shirley Inman and they were the parents of three sons. He later married Georgia Murphy, who passed away in 1999 after ten years of marriage.

Joseph lived for many years in the Oklahoma City and Midwest City area, where he worked at Tinker Air Force Base until retirement, and then worked for several years as a window installer and general handyman. He made his home in Horntown since November of 2018. He was a devoted fan of OU football and never missed watching a televised game. He loved woodworking. He was much loved and will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Orvilla Bennett; son Stephen Joseph Bennett; wife Georgia Bennett; five brothers: Wil liam H. ‘Tal’ Bennett Jr, James Lloyd Bennett, Wayne Bennett, Jack Heathcock, and Gene Heathcock; two sisters, Marion Elizabeth Bennett and Mary Helen Bennett.

He is survived by two sons, Ricky Don Bennett and Charles Kevin Bennett, both of Oklahoma City; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Bennett of Holdenville and Ancil Bennett of McAlester; three sisters: Jerry Mae Mc Donald of Calvin, Cheryl Kelley of Stuart, and Paula Bennett (Stephen Carter) of Horntown; numerous nieces and nephews, including Candice Mentink (Todd Collard) of Calvin, Chanc Bennett of Arlington TX, Caprice Coleman of Horntown, Tisha McClure (Lyle) of Holdenville, Lori Ryles (Brian) of Red Oak, Wylder Coleman of Horntown, Talon Coleman of Holdenville, Ramiro Masso of Holdenville, Brian Smith of Holdenville, Chaney Coleman of Stuart, Kaitlyn Ryles of Red Oak, Luke Ryles of Red Oak, and Jancy Ryles of Red Oak; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at the Calvin Cemetery Chapel on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 1:00pm with Glenda Stansbury officiating.
