Margaret "Darlene" Whitfield

Margaret “Darlene” Whitfield was born on January 10, 1946 in Avant, Oklahoma to Ben McGlaughlin and Nettie (Roberts) McGlaughlin.

Darlene passed from this life on May 4, 2025 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Darlene grew up in Avant, Oklahoma. She was a part of the graduating class of 1964. On July 1, 1975 she married Don “Duck” Whitfield. Together they had two children, Tra- cy Whitfield and Sher ry Burridge. They spent 44 years together, until Don’s passing in 2020.

Following school, she lived in the Tulsa area.

There, she worked as a supervisor at several communications services including Southwestern Bell and United Video. She even spent some time working for Hillcrest Hospital. Eventually though, she began working as a secretary for Dustin Schools. She would work here for over 20 years before retiring. She then moved to Jenks.

Darlene was a member of the Carson Baptist Church before moving to Jenks and joining Beaver Street Baptist.

Darlene had several hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, and cooking. She was particularly a fan of dessert. She’d have it before the meal if she could! Most importantly though, she cherished her family. They meant the world to her.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Nettie McGlaughlin; her husband of 44 years, Don Whitfield; her daughter, Sherry Burridge; one grandson, Daniel Whitfield; two brothers, Bob and Smokey Mc-Glaughlin; and five sisters, Mary

Jo Eldridge, Alta Rudluff, Jean Ervin, Ruth Morris, and Sandra Pointer.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Tra- cy Whitfield and Sheila; sisters, Betty Hansen (Jim), and Lena Holland (Jim); grandchildren, Aubrey Watts, Jarod Burridge (McKenzie), Chad Burridge (Brittany); great-grandchildren, James, Dani, Eliza, Luke, Danny, Hayden, Audrey, Wyatt, Payton, and Avery; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Darlene Whitfield will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Williamson- Spradlin Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Darlene Whitfield will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Carson Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carson Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Williamson- Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.
