Altha Oda Lee “Odie” Medders Weatherred was born February 27, 1933, Rocky, Oklahoma. Her parents were Carl and Lois Medders. She grew up in Clinton, Oklahoma moving to Hughes County in 1950.

Odie met Lee Warren Weatherred and they married April 8, 1951. She graduated from Fairview in 1951. Odie began working for Seamprufe before it opened and was payroll supervisor until January 1955. She joined Lee, who was drafted, in Augusta Georgia. She worked for the Dept of Army until Lee’s discharge in November 1956.

Returning to Holdenville, Odie started college at East Central State in January 1957 and graduated in December 1960 earning a 3.96 grade average and a Bachelor degree in Education and a minor in Sociology. She had a private Kindergarten, and then went to work for the Department of Public Welfare. Her positions with the Department of Public Welfare then becoming the Department of Human Services, over a 23 year career were numerous. She earned her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma in 1968. Her last 12 years were as a Field Representative mostly serving southeastern Oklahoma. If children needed clothing, school supplies or special medical needs, Odie would often supply. After retiring in 1986, Odie helped Lee in his hardware store. Lee Weatherred True Value Hardware, until Lee closed the store in 1992.

Being avid Oklahoma University Football fans, having season tickets since 1980, they purchased their first RV in 1986. They soon joined the Rollin Okies Motor Coach Club and counted them as their closest friends. They traveled to see OU play from coast to coast, and all 50 states plus Canada.

Odie did her share of community services. She was a Girl Scout Community Chairman, member and President of Business and Professional Women’s Organization. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church and was active until her death.

The Weatherred’s considered their pets their children, Mitzy & Elizabeth, Eskimo Spitz, ET a cat, Antone a Maltase and their beloved Precious, a West Highland Terrier they had for 15 years.

Odie was preceded in death by her parents and Lee Warren her husband of 67 years. She is survived by 2 brothers, Gene of Elk City, OK, Truman of Springfield, MO, nieces and nephews; Alan, Dale, Jean Ann,, Dee Anna, great ones, Keith, Alana, Jordan, Kaleb, Emily, Grant, Nancy Andrew, Emily and Conner. Odie had double cousins and cousins who were family. She considered Steve, Kelly, Sawyer and Stevi Huff her adopted family.

Pallbearers are Steve Huff, Sawyer Huff, Paul Huff, Clyde Collis, Bruce Woods and Mel Noey.

Viewing will be 9:00am to 7:00pm Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma.

Family & friends visitation from 5:00pm-7:00pm Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:00am Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Holdenville with Pastor James Poulain officiating.
