Olen Gene Tackett passed away at his home in Lamar, Oklahoma on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at the age of 71 years.

Olen was the son of John and Maryann Elizabeth (Tucker) Tackett, born on September 14, 1949 in Jackfork, Oklahoma, where he was brought up and attended schools. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. He earned his GED while in the Navy reserves in Wyoming.

He married Isabel Jones in July of 1979 at Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and they followed

Olen’s construction work all over the U.S. He built commercial structures, including numerous car washes across the country, which he enjoyed pointing out to his kids. He and Isabel lived for a few years in Moore before moving in 1985 to Lamar, their home for more than 30 years. They were blessed with forty years together before Isabel passed away on June 8, 2019.

Some of Olen’s favorite things were woodworking, gardening and working flower beds, and reading. He was a talented singer and bass guitar player. He loved music, family dinners and get-togethers, and most of all, he loved laughing and joking with his grandkids. He was much loved and will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Maryann Tackett; his wife Isabel; granddaughter Angel McCord; four brothers, Floyd Tackett, Jerry Tackett, John Tackett, and Bill Tackett; and three sisters, Betty Jean Clark, Pansey Barns and Kitt Campbell.

He is survived by three children, Jeffrey Kyle Tackett of Broken Arrow, Kelly Jean Tackett (Trenton Michael Simrell) of Lamar, and Patrick Kane Tackett (Jessica) of Lamar; six grandchildren, Cross Tackett, Madilyn McCord, Laura McCord, Morgan McCord, Michael Simrell, and Azlyn Simrell; two brothers, Fred Tackett and Lee Tackett; and two sisters, Ida Penny and Joanne McCord. Also numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services with military honors were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28 , at Carson Baptist Church, with Rev. Lonnie Hoelsher officiating. Pallbearers were Kane Tackett, Kyle Tackett, Trent Simrell, Michael Hamilton, Tanner Goforth, and Marcy Mooney. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Simrell, Lee Tackett, Bill Smith, Tommy Joe Robison, Earl Hearon, Joe Mitchell, and Stan Walkup.
