Orville Eugene Rose

My Daddy, my hero, Orville Eugene Rose, born February 1st, 1936 in Hughes County to Fred A. Rose and Annabell (Arthur) Rose, crossed into eternity May 4, 2023.

Raised south of Lamar, he followed his father’s instruction and guidance. His dad taught him morals to live by, hard work, honesty, love and kindness for all God’s creation.

He never strayed from his dad’s teaching.

Orville began school at Shady Grove and graduated from Moss.

Daddy served our country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1960.

1961 he and Momma were married. 1962 they had me, their only child. Always Daddy loved me. Loved me unconditionally. I was his little girl. I was so proud of Daddy too. He and momma worked to help me in every way.

November 1961 until 1975, he worked for Holdenville Police Department. January 1975, he began his first term as Hughes County Sheriff. Retiring after four terms. After a few months of caring for his cattle, painting the barn and mending fences, he started work at Wetumka Police Department. Ten years later, he retired for the final time. February 2002, Steve and Stephanie Branscum shared their baby, Aubri Grace, with Dad and Mom then 8 years later Aubri's baby brother, Cole Michael. Daddy became their Poppy. So much joy and happiness they both gave Daddy. Along with being Poppy, keeping his yard, tending cattle and loving Momma and me those were his golden years.

The story of Daddy’s life includes the many people he had contact with in his years of public service. All were treated equally. “A Life Well Lived.”

Orville is survived by his wife Bobbie of the home, daughter Teresa Kirkland, nephew Josh Rose and wife Anita, sons; Connor and Derrick, faithful cousin George Bostick, sister-inlaw Eudena Brewer and husband Jim, sister-in-law Connie Peercy, chosen family; Steve, Stephanie, Aubri and Cole Branscum. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Arlen Treat, brother Harold Rose and wife Francine.

Thanks to Dad and Mom’s neighbors who helped so much with Daddy’s illness. Longtime friends Donna and Ron Thompson and Traditions Home Health and Traditions Hospice.

Graveside service was held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 8, 2023 at Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, Oklahoma.

Services were under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma.
