Our Sympathies extended to the families of... Mandy Ruth Harjo

Mandy Ruth Harjo passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, in Okmulgee, OK at the age of 66.

Mandy was born July 25, 1955, in Wetumka, OK to Benjamin and Christine Harjo. She was the 5th of 10 children. Mandy attended Graham Public School in Weleetka, OK, where she graduated in 1973. She played basketball at Graham and later earned her cosmetology license.

During her lifetime, she lived in many places – Oklahoma, Texas, and Pakistan. She traveled to New York, Washington DC, Las Vegas, and Germany. Mandy raised her 3 daughters in Oklahoma City and later settled in Mounds and worked at Creek Nation Division of Health, where she retired in 2016. Mandy loved going to church and singing Creek hymns. She was a member of Hickory Ground #1 Baptist Church. She was a talented cook, able to make many different types of food. Some favorites she made were “Hallelujah” for her daddy and homemade dressing for the holidays. She enjoyed watching tennis matches and basketball, she loved doing hair and makeup. She had many nicknames from family and friends- Dolly, Hokte, Chops, Honey, Lulu, and COC.

Mandy is preceded in death by her parents, brother James “Be-be” Harjo, niece Kristina Thomas, and nephew Craig Bucktrot.

She is survived by her daughter Pam Edgar and husband Bill; Her daughter Saira Boswell and husband Thomas; her daughter Amber Acosta and husband Edgar;

Her grandchildren Savannah Edgar, Sophie Edgar, Gabriel Boswell, Chloe Boswell, Isabella Zafar, and Noah Jones; and her siblings Drew Johnson, Mary Wagner, Frank Harjo, Karen Powell, Anna Harjo, William Harjo, Bennie Harjo, and Judy Montiel, plus many nieces and nephews, cousins, and close, loving friends. She was blessed with a large, close-knit family. She is loved by many and will be missed dearly by all.

Viewing for Mandy was from 2 – 8 pm Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Integrity Funeral Service.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 13, 2021, at Hickory Ground #1 Baptist Church south of Salem. Rev. Mitchell Taylor and Rev. Wallace Gambler will be officiating. Interment followed in Harjo Family Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
