Our Sympathies extended to the families of...Norma Hensley

Norma Faye Hensley, 86, passed from this earthly body to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. She was under hospice care in her daughter’s home in Mansfield, Texas.

Norma was born on April 12, 1935 in Spaulding, Oklahoma to Joe and Della Moore. Norma grew up in Spaulding with three sisters, Mabel, Orcella (still living) and Colleen. She especially had a close bond with Orcella, as they spent many hours playing together. They had a strong love and lifelong devotion to each other as sisters. She played basketball in high school and even went to the state level playoffs. She graduated from Spaulding, Oklahoma.

Norma married Allen “Bud” Hensley in 1955 and had two daughters. Rhonda was born in 1956 and Shawnette in 1959. Norma and her little girls eventually moved to Ada and she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. After retiring, her love of flowers prompted her to open her own wedding catering business. She was an avid gardener and spent long hours working in her beautiful flower gardens.

Mom loved her daughters and three grandkids, Dillon, Dustin and Lindsey. She then had six great-grandkids, Ashlyn, Kaylin, Hunter, Blake, Jack and Elin. Her newest addition was her only great-great-grandson, Mario Grayson (whom she referred to as Peanut because of size).

One of Norma’s greatest gifts was the love she had for her many cherished and close friends. She loved them passionately and unconditionally! Her two best friends are Melba Haynes and Kay Callaway from Ada. Sheryl Evans was an all-time favorite friend and care taker, almost like a daughter to Norma. Norma was a longtime member of the East Main Church of Christ in Holdenville, Oklahoma where she had many cherished friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Joe and Della Moore; her older sisters, Mabel Border and Colleen Bowlware Eggleston; three infant brothers; and countless aunts, uncles and cousins. She was also proceeded by her son-in-law, Chuck Self, on April 27, 2021.

She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Self of Mansfield, Texas and Shawnette Hensley of Arlington, Texas; Dillon Katigan and fiancee Krisha; sons Blake, Jack and Cazden; Dustin Self, Ashlyn, Kaylin, Hunter, Lindsey and Elin Self. Last but not least, her beloved dog, “Melba Kay” who was named after her two very best friends; and many extended family members.

Funeral service was 1:00 pm Monday, May 24th , at the Church of Christ in Holdenville, Oklahoma with Minister Larry Bailey officiating, assisted by Bill Robinson. Services were under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma.
