Our Sympathies Extended to the Families Of... Roy Powell

Roy Powell passed away in Holdenville on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the age of 54 years.

Roy was the son of David and Mary (Johnson) Powell, born on February 6, 1966, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, where he was brought up. He attended Wetumka schools, and also Eufaula Boarding School. He was athletic and was good at all sports. He played softball for many years, and after his health failed still enjoyed joining the kids playing horseshoes and basketball. He loved spending time with his great nieces and great nephews, and the neighborhood kids.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Powell; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Herman Harjo; nephew Hiram Harjo and niece Andrea Harjo; brothers Davy Powell and Barney Powell.

He is survived by his son, William Powell Lemmings and wife Leanna, of Sasakway; two brothers, Bunny Powell and wife Geraldine and Danny Powell, all of Holdenville; three nieces: Miranda James and husband Tracy, Dana Powell, and Falisha Powell, and one nephew, Benjamin Powell, all of Holdenville; seven great nieces and great nephews: Josiah Powell, Seth Powell, Genelle James, Alexis James, Lakaya Lena, Jaelee Lena, Kaitlynn Harjo; many cousins, numerous other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Many Springs Baptist Church in Holdenville, and Roy was laid to rest at the Powell Family Cemetery. Wake services were Wednesday, February 3, 7:00 p.m. at Many Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Jimmy Anderson and Rev. Mark Smith were the officiating ministers.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Powell, Dennis Powell, Daryl Powell, Chris Powell, Osceola Powell, Ben Powell, Russell Lowe, R. J. Lowe, Tenetke Lowe, and Wechatee Lowe. Honorary pallbearers were Oske Lowe, Sherman West, and Jesse Moppin.
