Peggy Leach

Peggy June Leach passed away in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the age of 86 years.

Peggy was the daughter of Evert and Mary (Cooper) Coppedge, born on July 23, 1935 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was brought up in rural Holdenville and in Hobbs, New Mexico. Her early years were spent living with her family in various parts of the country following her father’s oil field work. When they returned to Oklahoma, she met J. D. Leach in Spaulding and was married to him in 1951, in Holdenville. After J. D. served two years in the U.S. Army, he and Peggy lived for ten years in Hobbs, New Mexico before they returned to Oklahoma in 1963. They built their lifetime home in Spaulding and enjoyed 70 years together there before J. D. passed away on February 4, 2022.

Peggy worked as a nurse’s aide at Holdenville Hospital. She was a talented artist and loved to paint and draw. Some of her favorite things were fishing, browsing garage sales, and looking at antiques at estate sales. She was a member of Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Holdenville. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Evert & Mary Coppedge; her husband of 70 years, J. D. Leach; their daughter, Terry Nickell; four sisters: Louise Capps, Naomi Turner, Sue Oliphant, and Patsy Bell; three brothers: Bobby Coppedge, Larry Coppedge, and Jimmy Coppedge, who passed away as a toddler.

She is survived by three children: Tim Leach of Holdenville, Tonya Greenlee (Jay) of Perry, and Joey Leach (Jennifer) of Flat Rock IN; eight grandchildren: Christy LaBlanc of Arkansas, Justin Leach (Jo) of Holdenville, Jarrod Murray (Jenae) of Choctaw, Andrea Riggins of Newalla, Erin Greenlee and Matthew Greenlee (Heather), all of Stillwater, Connor Leach and Reese Leach, both of Flat Rock IN; nine great-grandchildren: Brittany, Allison, Micah, Jacee, Jake, Megan, Colby, Aubrey, and Katelynn; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kay Whinery, of Hobbs NM; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 2, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Holdenville, and Peggy will be laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Mack Peercy is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Justin Leach, Jarrod Murray, Matthew Greenlee, Erin Greenlee, Reese Leach, and Conner Leach.
