Robert Davis

Robert Davis, 71, longtime Hughes County resident, was called to his Heavenly home Friday, December 18, 2020, in his Holdenville home. Robert was born January 20, 1949 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Jessie Davis and Ora (Johnson) Davis.

Robert was a proud graduate of Pleasant Grove, Seminole. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from East Central University, then a Master’s Degree from Oklahoma State University. Robert spent 30-plus years in education as teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. Then spent 12 years as a dispatcher for the Holdenville Police Department.

Besides enjoying and taking pride in his careers, Robert took more joy in being a loyal, faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and Christian. Robert always loved the company of his family. Whether it was a family gathering, call or text from his kids/grandkids, or having his wife sing religious hymns to/with him at home.

Robert enjoyed participating and watching sports, watching movies, especially westerns, watching game shows, listening to music as well as singing songs even if he didn’t know all the lyrics, playing games, doing crossword puzzles, and making people laugh. He would also argue with you that the movie Bullitt had the greatest car chase, if not best movie scene ever.

Robert was the pastor and member of Little River Baptist Church. Robert loved spreading the word of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In his church, at home or home visits, and in general, Robert was a faithful Christian and carried his cross until Jesus lifted his burden and called him home.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Davis and Ora (Johnson) Davis and brother Simeon Johnson.

Robert is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Davis of Holdenville; sister Lorene Davis of Holdenville; two sons Robert Davis of Spaulding, and Alva Davis of Holdenville; four daughters, Angela Brown and husband Josh of Grand Prairie, Texas, Amanda Lawhorn and husband Ray of Ada, Holly Davis of Denver, Colorado and Elizabeth Davis of Grand Prairie, Texas; and three grandkids, Sage, Keely, and Nathan. Robert is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
