Service Friday for Myrtle Jennings

Myrtle Lorene Jennings passed away in Holdenville on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the age of 80 years.

Myrtle was the daughter of Roy C. Harrelson and Nellie (Marler) Harrelson, born on April 26, 1938, in Depew, Oklahoma. She was brought up in the Seminole and Bowlegs area, and attended Mountain View grade school and Bowlegs High School.  

She was married at age 17 to Dale Jennings on April 9, 1955, in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was a minister’s wife for more than 50 years, serving along with her husband as evangelist and pastor for the Assembly of God Church. They traveled for several years as evangelists in Texas and South Carolina, then returned to

Oklahoma, and pastored churches in various parts of the state - Ferguson, Maud, Chickasha, Duncan, Holden-ville, Ryan, Oklahoma City, Del City, Ada , and finally returned to pastor the Holdenville Assembly of God Church from 2001-2005. When that pastorate ended, they returned to evangelizing for a while before retiring in 2008. Holdenville has been their home since 2001.

Myrtle was a musician and artist, she played both piano and organ and loved to paint, especially oils. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, an excellent minister’s wife, and she will be sorely missed.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy & Nellie Harrelson; four brothers: Ray Harrelson, Raymond Harrelson, Randall Harrelson, and infant Sonny Boy Harrelson; two sisters, Jessie Harrelson and Bessie Harrelson. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dale Jennings, of the home; her son, John Jennings of Seminole, and four daughters: Janice Thoma (Steve) of Sasakwa, Loretha Beatty of Holden-ville, Michele Stafford of Oklahoma City, and Peggy Smith of Comanche; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; one brother, Carl Harrelson of Tanzania; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.  

Funeral services will be Friday, February 15, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at the Holdenville First Assembly of God Church, and Myrtle will be laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Wesley Martin and Rev. Allen Lewis are the officiating ministers. Pallbearers are Raymond Jennings, Logan Beatty, Adrian Jennings, Kadyn Jennings, Joshua Green, Hunter Thoma, Kyle Stafford, and Ryan Stafford. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Beatty, Kenny Green, David Brewer, Steve Thoma, and Ray Birdwell.  Viewing will be Thursday, February 14, 2019, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
