Service held for Glenda Jean McElhaney

Glenda Jean (Montgomery) McElhaney, at the age of 77, passed away on the afternoon of August 11, in the year 2020. Having been in poor health she passed from her loved ones while being hospitalized at St Francis in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Glenda was born on February 17, 1943 in Holdenville, Oklahoma at St Francis Hospital. She was born to Edward and Lois Montgomery. Edward and Lois had moved to California from Calvin, Oklahoma in order to find work and they were living in Bakersville, California. Lois (with an upcoming delivery) had traveled back to Oklahoma in order to be near her parents until after the delivery of Glenda. Glenda’s grandparents both paternal and maternal would have some personal time with their granddaughter before returning to California; Edward would have to wait patiently until both his girls returned to California. Glenda was the eldest daughter, three siblings were to follow as listed in the following order Ronald Eugene, Jerry David and Kathleen.

In 1948 Glenda’s parents along with Ronnie and Jerry moved back to Oklahoma and were to live in the Wetumka area until a farm was purchased. During this transition period the family farm was obtained and Glenda was later introduced to a new family member; now the family consisted of parents, herself, and three siblings.

Glenda and family lived in a rural area near Horntown, Oklahoma, she and her siblings attended Moss Public School, Glenda, graduated in 1960. She participated in sports, both softball and basketball during attendance at Moss. She was a dedicated and popular student, she was a beautiful young lady with an outgoing personality. Glenda, participated in most school activities, and was FFA Sweetheart of 1959.

After graduating high school in the year of 1960 Glenda attended college at East Central in Ada, Oklahoma. She often spoke well of her sorority sisters and was an active participant in most college activities. She later attended classes at Oklahoma University and then worked and lived for several years in Norman as a medical secretary. In 1971, she moved to the Tulsa area where she continued her career as a medical secretary. While working for Dr. Leslie Walls at ORU School of Medicine, Dr. Walls introduced Glenda to a friend, Richard McElhaney. On June 8, 1979 they were married and lived in the Bixby area; she and Richard were married for forty-one years.

Glenda an avid lover of flowers spent many years working in her garden and growing beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees. She will be remembered for her cooking and gardening skills. She spent many hours working and caring for her family.

Proceeding Glenda in death are grandparents; numerous aunts and uncles; cousins; a nephew, Billy Harrington; parents, Edward and Lois Montgomery; siblings Jerry and Ron Montgomery.

Survivors include her husband Richard McElhaney of Bixby; son Monty of the home; stepsons Darren and wife Sheryl and children of Tulsa, and Josh, wife Karen, and children of Tulsa; sister Kathleen and husband David Harrington, Allen; brother-in-law Charles and wife Sherry; sisters-in-law Sherry (Mott) Montgomery of Bixby, Phyllis (Smith) Montgomery, Wetumka; and aunts, cousins, several nephews, nieces, and many dear friends.

Her service was held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15 th , at Hudson Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Holdenville, OK. Mel Latorre (minister) officiated the service. Pallbearers were Monty McElhaney, Josh McElhaney, Robert Harrington, Ty Montgomery, David Harrington, and Mel Latorre. Honorary pallbearers were Darren McElhaney and Jeff Corral.

Interment followed at the Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, Oklahoma. Services under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Online condolences to the family can be made at www.phillipfuneralservice.com.
