Service held for Nina Ruth Baxter

Nina Ruth (Dean) Baxter, daughter of Clyde David Dean and Mary Jane (McCoy) Dean, was born June 24, 1935 in Yeager, Oklahoma and went to her final resting place on May 22, 2019 at her residence, Fountain Brook Assisted Living Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She attended Yeager Public Schools for 12 years graduating high school in 1953.  While in school Nina enjoyed her friends and playing basketball for Coach Charlie Self.  Her youth was filled with family as she worked in the fields with her cousins and siblings Pete, Bobby, June and Shirley.

On September 27, 1952 she married Bob Baxter in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  They began their marriage and family in Yeager and then moved to Holden-ville.  Nina and Bob had three children Pam, Paula and Keith.  She was a working mom that began at The Bank in Holdenville before taking a job a deputy clerk with the County Clerk, Speck Broadduss.  She was elected County Clerk in 1971 and held that position until her retirement in 1989, totaling 31 years of service to the citizens of Hughes County.  She loved watching her children participate in sports throughout their school days following them across Oklahoma.  Upon her retirement, Nina opened Country Club Daycare until she fully retiring in 2008.

Known by her grandchildren as Nanny, she loved spoiling them with gifts, especially the granddaughters and especially frilly dresses and bright colored outfits and hair bows.

Bob and Nina moved to Fountain Brook assisted Living Center, Oklahoma City, in 2012.  She quickly became part of the community there being active in almost every activity and event possible.  She continued watching her sports, loving OU football and Thunder basketball, rarely ever missing a game.

Nina was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Clyde David Dean and Mary Jane Dean, brother Pete Dean, sister Shirley Place, and grandson Bo Baxter.

She is survived by daughters Pam Lucas and husband Randy of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Paula Blevins and husband Gary of Lubbock, Texas; son Keith Baxter and wife Teenie, Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren Randee Wood and husband Ryan, Plano, Texas, Cody Lucas and wife Kyrstin, Oklahoma City, Joe Jeffrey and wife Justa Granbury Texas, Walt Jeffrey and wife Maria, Sherman, Texas, Callie Partain and husband Josh, Lubbock, Texas, Beau Blevins and wife Jennifer, Dallas, Texas,  Bryan Blevins and wife Kcee, Friscoe, Texas, Ashley Cheek and husband Michael, Durant, Oklahoma, and Kaylie Ragsdale and husband Coby, Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren Ryan “Luke” Wood, Charlotte JoAnn Wood, Cooper Joe Lucas, Cassidy Jeffrey, Jacob Jeffery, Taylor Jeffery, Merci Jeffrey, Mia Vickers, Keller Partain, Creed Partain, Flick Blevins, Banjo Blevins, Jubilee Blevins, Vivienne Blevins, Jacqueline Blevins, Jacqueline Blevins, Ryker Cheek, Rhett Cheek and Renlie Cheek.  She also leaves special relatives including brother Bobby Dean and wife Sue, sister June Carter, and Jerry Baxter and wife Janice; plus many nieces, nephews and other friends.

Funeral service was Monday May 27th , at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m.  Reverend Dan Robinson and Bill Robinson officiated.  Pall Bearers were Bryan Blevins, Beau Blevins, Joe Jeffrey, Walt Jeffrey, Cody Lucas, Ryan Wood, Josh Partain, Michael Cheek and Coby Ragsdale.  Interment followed at the Holdenville Cemetery.  Service were under the direction Phillips Funeral Home.
