Service Saturday for Naomi Tomlinson

Naomi Ruth Tomlinson passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Holdenville, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years.  She was born April 13, 1928 to Lillian and Raymond Eldridge in Dustin, Oklahoma.  She was the oldest of six children....the only girl.  

She married Bruce McKinney in March of 1950.  They were married 33 years until his death in 1983.  She married Paskel Tomlin-son in 1987.

Naomi taught school for many years.  Her first class was in the late 40’s before she had finished her teaching degree.  She went back to college in the 60’s and finished her schooling.  She taught at Dustin, Okemah, Wetumka and Hanna during her career.

Naomi loved her church, attending gospel singings, reading and traveling.  She had traveled to many parts of the world and all across the United States.  She was a ‘Pink Lady’ and a member of the Holdenville ‘Red Hats’.  Naomi fell in love with poetry at a very young age.  Over the years, she wrote many poems and short stories.  After the death of her second husband, she wrote and published three books of poems and stories with the help of close friends.

Naomi is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Bruce McKinney and Paskel Tomlinson; brothers Bob, Don, Tony and Wendel; and baby daughter Judith Lynn.

She is survived by her brother Benny Eldridge and wife Anna Sue of California and several sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.  She is also survived by her daughter Jennie Gordon and husband Harold of Holdenville and son Fred McKinney of Lexington, South Carolina; grandchildren Shawn McKinney and wife Beth of North Carolina, Teresa Lund and husband Jeff of South Carolina, Lindsey Sanders and husband Billy of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Whitney Laramore and husband Bryan of Cherokee, Oklahoma; and eight great grandchildren.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews,

cousins and close friends.

A family gathering will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm this Friday November 8, 2019 at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday November 9, 2019 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma with Rev. Bryan Laramore officiating assisted by Rev. Earl Scroggins. Interment will follow at Dustin Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Holdenville, Oklahoma.
