, Services set for Ophelia Hooper

Ophelia L. (Butler) Hooper, 92, longtime Wetumka, Oklahoma resident passed from this life Monday, May 27, 2019 in Oklahoma City.

She was born January 3, 1927 to Carl Leonard and Goldie Marie (Rayburn) Butler in Atwood, Oklahoma.

Ophelia was raised in Atwood, Oklahoma and graduated from Atwood Public Schools. She played on the Atwood Girls Basketball team.

She married Fred Hooper. Ophelia retired from Big Yank Jean Company after 26 years of service. She retired from her second career as a florist at 86 years of age. She worked at Gilles Flower Shop in Wewoka and Alice’s Flower Shop in Holden-ville. Ophelia also cleaned the Bank of Commerce in Wetumka for many years, taking over after her husband Fred passed away. She was proud to be a hard worker, was a talented Florist and loved having fresh flowers in her home. Ophelia was an excellent cook, loved Christmas gatherings and decorations and loved taking her annual trips to Branson, MO. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Wetumka and enjoyed Sunday school and church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hooper; grandson, Jerry D. White; parents, Carl Leonard Butler and Goldie Marie Adams; 3 sisters, Gertrude Waddell, Clara Hampton and Virginia Bachus; and brother, Leroy Butler.

Those left to cherish her memory are 4 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Ann Poplin of Bethany, OK, Mary and Ron Wiser of Oklahoma City, OK, Suzanne and Travis Qualls of Wewoka, OK and Terri Hooper of Norman, OK; 1 son and 1 daughter-in-law, Denny and Wendy Hooper of TX; 2 grandsons, Terry White of Owasso, OK and Landon and Kristen Qualls of Tecumseh, OK; 3 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Avery and Austin Qualls; 1 sister, Louise Mason of Oklahoma City, OK; 3 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Dean Butler, of TX Claude and Reinette , Butler of Wetumka, OK and Kenneth and Barbara Butler of IN; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 with family gathering to greet friends and family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Cooper Funeral Home. Her Casket will be open at the Church until 9:50 a.m. and will not be reopened after service. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Wetumka with Reverend Claude Butler, First Baptist Church Wetumka officiating. Burial will follow at Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
