Terry Joe Carter

Posted in:

Terry Joe Carter was born May 24, 1962 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Barry Jr. Carter and Bertha Lee (Tillery) Carter. He was raised in Wetumka, Oklahoma with his six sisters Bessie, Katie, Linda, Diane, Vicki, and Janie and his one brother, Tommy.

Growing up he enjoyed hanging out with friends, camping, fishing, and always finding his way into trouble. As he grew up, he worked in the oil field and as a shade tree mechanic on the side. He was always traveling from place to place but always found time to hang out with his buddies, Carmen Arriaga, Gary and Ricky Ramsey, Larry Lane, and Paul Eric Tillery. They played pool, drank lots of beer, and spent lots of time at the lake fishing and listening to music.

As time went on, he grew to spend more time with his family, his fiancé Viola, and his best friend and forever companion, Baby Girl, his dog. Terry was the type of person who would give ya his last dollar without even thinking or take yours if you were playing cards or dominos with him. He was always there to lend a helping hand, day or night. He might just need a little gas money. He was a loving brother and uncle to us all and will be missed dearly.

Terry was proceeded in death by his parents, Barry Jr. Carter and Bertha Lee Carter; siblings, Linda Carl, Bessie Jordan, and Tommy Carter; his son, Daniel Hubbard Carter; and nieces and nephews, Tonya Carter, Kimberly Long, Teddy Harjo, Christopher Lynn Carter, and Buddy Shatswell; great-niece, Tiffany Long and great-nephews, Cody Shatswell and Gunner Gill; and brother-in-law, Clifford (Bud) Rogers.

Terry is survived by his fiancé, Viola Snow; siblings, Katie Shatswell and husband, Buddy Wayne Shatswell, from Sayre, Diane Rogers from Elk City, Vicki Lunsford from Burns Flat, Janie Carter from Oklahoma City; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins along with family and friends who he loves dearly.

Funeral services for Terry Joe Carter will be Saturday, May 22, at 2:00pm at a location to be announced. Visitation will be Friday, May 21 from 9:00am until 8:00pm, with family calling hours from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Pallbearers will be TJ Carter, Juan Cortez, Michael Davis, Matias Hernandez, Christian Carter, Demitrus Carter, Toby Harjo, and Larry Lane. Interment will follow at Wetumka Cemetery in Wetumka, Oklahoma under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Weleetka and Wetumka.
