Wayne Martin

Robert Wayne Martin, 83, of Harrah, OK passed from this life to join the Angels in Heaven on April 18,2021 at the McLoud Nursing Home where he had been lovingly cared for the past six years. He was born to Lois Velma (Brantley) and Harry Martin on September 28, 1937 in Wewoka, OK.

Wayne attended Jackson Grade School and graduated from Holdenville High School in 1955 where he was active in musical and athletic activities, including football, basketball and baseball and was an All-State selection in football. He was inducted into the HHS Hall of Fame in 1956. Wayne attended Cameron University on a football scholarship and then spent two years in the U. S. Navy.

He worked for his Holdenville buddy Walt Votaw in his machine shop, Votaw Precision Tools, for nearly 50 years before retiring and moving back home. He enjoyed fishing, hunting (bears, elk, deer, rabbits, squirrels) and working on his lawn. He loved spending time outdoors and loved to tinker with and fix gadgets.

He was also an avid collector of coins and fans, but his greatest joy was young people, especially his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, but no kid was safe from his charms and gentle bribes. He remained loyal to the Dodgers and the Lakers after he left California but embraced the Oklahoma Sooners in football and Brady Manek and the OU basketball team. He really enjoyed Brady when he played at Harrah.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Harrah Martin; 3 sisters, Nancy Denney, Betty Smith and Carolyn Agan; and his in-laws Rube and Polly Russell.

Survivors include his wife Jean; three sons, Russ and Eileen Martin of Deer Park, WA, Scott and Maria Martin of Fullerton, CA and Steve Martin of Chandler, AZ; 8 grandchildren, Diana, Matthew, Chet, Travis, Rachel, Casey, Jenna and Curtis; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Bill Martin of Harrah; a sister Paula and husband, John Dunlap of Harrah; brothers in law Mike Agan and Bob Denney; and a whole host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel at Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah, with Dr. Griff Henderson officiating, followed by interment at Non Cemetery, Gerty, OK.

Condolences and tributes may be posted on the funeral home website asasmith.net
