When I was 16 I tried out for my high school basketball team. My school of 1800 students had 60 guys try out that year. I knew my odds were slim. But I hustled and sweated and made the first cut to 40. Then I made the cut to 25.
Phyllis June Lowe passed away Friday, February 5, 2021 at Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma at the age of 65.
Phyllis was born April 13, 1955 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to David Herrod and Eliouse Marshall. Phyllis graduated from Holdenville High School.
Finishing Strong in the Family
In his book, Finishing Strong: Going the Distance for Your Family, author Steve Farrar tells the story of John Coulter. Coulter was a member of Lewis and Clark’s expedition who decided to remain in the Rockies because he wanted to hunt and trap in the wilderness.
One of the more popular expressions knocked around by people in my age group (OLD!!) is “used to be.”
That is certainly true of our mothers, past and present.
Groundhog Day
So, it was on Tuesday the 2 nd . Since we do not have any real groundhogs, here in Allen, such as Punxsutawney Phil, I thought I would watch the yard closely on Tuesday. What could I watch for? I have a busy crowd of gophers, moles, and armadillos.
Enjoy these wise sayings but be careful with some of them consequences brought on by 2020.

We stopped at the gas station to fill up the car. It was one of our rituals on my monthly visits: a trip to the hardware store, a fill-up.
At 93, although my dad walked with difficulty, he was determined to pay for gas.
