An African American, Crawford “Cherokee Bill” Goldsby became one of the most famous outlaws in the history of the Indian Territory. Goldsby was born in Fort Concho, Texas.

Sales tax revenue returns for Hughes County were mixed in the latest report. Wetumka, Calvin, Stuart, Atwood and Yeager all showed an increase in business, while Holdenville, Dustin and Gerty saw a decrease in the latest report. Wetumka received $40,357.76 in July compared to $39,473.
