How an Oklahoma Slave Wrote One of the World’s Most Famous Songs

(Christina Lamb of Oklahoma City wanted to share an article written by Michael Overall of Okemah which appeared in the Tulsa World many years ago.) On a scorching hot afternoon in August 1840, several slaves were hoeing long rows of cotton on a plantation near Hugo, Oklahoma.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fund Raiser

Members of the Alpha Phi Alpha, Beta Lambda Chi Chapter of Boley, sold chances to win a rocking dinosaur as their annual fundraiser. Each year the chapter raises money to provide food baskets for the elderly, military families, and families of need in the communities of Boley and Clearview.

Walther Shannon made a promise to his family to begin a tradition having a yearly family reunion. Last year, he hosted the first of his family reunions in Clearview. This year, on June 29, Walter will host the second Shannon family reunion in Clearview.

The Clearview Rodeo and parade is August 3rd ad 4th this year. This year, the Town of Clearview is asking for entries for the parade. First and second place winners will receive prizes. Please come out and help us make this a great parade.

Holdenville Game Night News

We had two full tables of “Moon” players Monday night! Yea!    At table #1, Sharon Dilday and Lynn Marquis played against Joyce Brinlee and Barbara Tiger.  Sharon shot the “Moon” twice and made it both times! Way to go, Sharon!  They won 3 games altogether.  Joyce and Barbara won 4 games!

Lamar community news

The people of Lamar have been very busy this year, mostly trying to stay dry. It has been too wet to get in the pastures to get much done there, so they are doing other things (fishing). Some are planting their gardens, (I need some fresh vegetables.
