Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, marks the 1865 emancipation of enslaved people in Texas, effectively ending slavery in the U.S. It commemorates freedom, acknowledges Black Americans’ resilience, and reflects on the continuing fight for equality.

While growing up I had the usual childhood diseases such as chicken pox, measles, whooping cough, and even a bout with malaria.Oh yes, I almost forgot, mumps. At the time they all seemed awful, but after a while I forgot the pain and suffering.

The meeting was called to order by the PresidentRufus Scott following the flag salute and the invocation at 6 o’clock. The members present were Rufus Scott, Galen Glover, and Jeff Osborn. Those that were absent were Donnie Williamson.The Board voted to approve consent agenda items a-e.

This year’s event is being hosted by the Blue Devils’ Class of 1965 as they celebrated the 60th anniversary of their high school graduation. The community building will open at 9:00 am with a potluck lunch planned for 12:00 noon.

Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. for people to gather and visit. The potluck lunch will be held at 2:00 p.m. The earlier start and finish will allow people to return home before dark.
