On October 24th Chesla Burroughs, professor of history at the University of Oklahoma, invited Donnie and Shirley Nero to speak with her graduate history students and invited guests about Black Towns and communities of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, Inc. Mrs.

Former Calvin resident, Dr. James Morse, authored one of the best books I have ever read. The title is Growing Up With Real People and we would like to share the first story of that book with our readers. We also want to thank Dr. Morse for writing the book and sharing his memories.

On Tuesday, October 16th , the Wetumka Elementary sixth grade class hosted the annual Reading Fair during Parent/Teacher Conference night. Each student completed a book report assignment and then created a display board with the literary elements that were required for the project.

We eventually had 2 tables full of “Moon” domino players tonight!  Drawing as partners were Cindy McDaniel and Lynn Marquis and Peggy and Wanda Davis.  In this round, Peggy and Wanda won game.  Then we had several others to arrive and we drew partners again.  This time, we just switched partners.

The Tulsa Global Alliance’s hosted a group of five international visitors from Brazil on Monday, October 5 for a tour of black towns in Oklahoma. They chose to visit Clearview and Boley.  They were accompanied by two Portuguese/English interpreters and a Tulsa Global Alliance driver, Angie Moore.
