Steve James Wortman
Steve James Wortman passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at his home in Calvin, Oklahoma at the age of 75. Steve was born July 8, 1950 in Hanford, California to James Wortman and Flora Doreen (Smith) Wortman. He attended Calvin Public School. Steve married Debra Byerly. He was a truck driver for many years. Steve served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972 and saw two tours in Vietnam. He worked at the Army Ammunition Base and retired from there. Steve served 20 years as a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Calvin Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a County Deputy under Marshal Eller. Steve was preceded in death by his parents James and Flora Wortman, and brothers; Jimmy Wortman, Jerry Wortman and Billy Wortman. He is survived by his wife Debra Wortman of the home, children; Dawn Lawrence and husband Darrin of Calvin, Tim Wortman and wife Jenifer of Stonewall, grandchildren; Chase Lawrence, Jordan Wortman and Deven Wortman, great-grandchildren; Cayston Wortman, Karlie Lawrence, Creed Wortman and Callan Wortman. Steve is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Honorary pallbearers were Chase Lawrence, Jordan Wortman, Deven Wortman, Darrell Byerly Jr., Calupe Byerly, Rowdy Lambert, Zack Lambert, Austin Lambert and Darrin Lawrence. Viewing was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14 and 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 15 at Hudson- Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma. Graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Calvin Cemetery in Calvin, Oklahoma. Interment followed at Calvin Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
