Some things have not changed much since Wiley Post crashed his airplane 80 years ago and killed not only himself but famous Oklahoma humorist, actor, statesman and genuinely good guy Will Rogers.

This will be the last issue of the newspaper in 2020 and I am sure most of you will join me in being glad to see it go. Lots of good things have been hidden by the virus epidemic but the damage done to our nation as a whole will be felt for a long time.

It’s been four years since I completed my 57th and final year as a teacher and I’ll be honest with you, in many ways I am glad that I am not having to face the classroom (and out of classroom) challenges that teachers are facing in this topsy-turvy year of the COVID.

Seems it’s getting harder and harder to find humorous (yet not vulgar) material for people of a certain age to enjoy. Here is a glimpse of some signs or billboards that have been randomly seen across the United States. Enjoy!!! 1.

Everyone thinks senior citizens are senile. An elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired. Holding hands they walked back to their old school.

The mind is a priceless gift, one that sometimes can be clouded by environment and preconceptions. For example: The fattest knight at King Arthur’s round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.

I spent my first two years of college in Nashville, TN, which I considered as getting my education in “The South.” But I soon learned that to discover the REAL South, one had to go deeper, like the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, even Virginia and its Western expansion, etc.

Most of our generation of 60+ were HOME SCHOOLED in many ways. We just didn’t know it at the time. Examples: 1. My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE: “If you’re going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.” 2.

A woman, cranky because her husband was late coming home again, decided to leave a note, saying, “I’ve had enough and have left you... don’t bother coming after me!” Then she hid under the bed to see his reaction.

Oklahoma once seemingly held a monopoly on Tornado Season. When the first day of Spring became official in mid-March easy year, that was the signal for tornados to come sweeping down the plains.
