Friday the 13 th was last month but there was enough bad luck going around, so I decided to put it off a month, but the bewitching atmosphere of that special occasion lingers on. Here’s a list of a few who didn’t escape the curse. 1.WILL THE REAL DUMMY PLEASE STAND UP?

Since I am not in the classroom anymore, I don’t have any reason to dread, fear, acknowledge or otherwise survive April Fool’s Day. It just simply isn’t on my busy retired schedule this year. It’s pretty profound.

I enjoyed every day of the 57 years that I was a teacher, some more than others I might say and none more than the last 15 years when I: 1. Taught three days a week 2. Had gifted and talented kids 3. No discipline problems (sent them back to regular class if they got frisky 4.

As a longtime English teacher (no math or foreign languages for me), I have long had a good “ear” to hear certainly words pronounced correctly. I have spent two years in the South (Nashville, TN) and one year in the FAR East (Philippine Islands) but the rest of my time has been in Oklahoma.

Morris and his wife Esther went to the State Fair every year and every year, Morris would say, “Esther, I sure would like to ride in that helicopter.” And Esther always replied, “I know, Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars.”

Through the years I have occasionally used quotes from Maxine in my writings and I say occasionally because much of her “stuff” is not fit to print in a family newspaper. But I never bothered to investigate her origins. Now I have.

One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.
