Service Monday for Charles Akin

Charles Akin was born in Holdenville on March 15, 1943 To Robert Hensley Akin and Nora Lee Byerly Akin. He married Deborah Dawn Wilkerson on February 24, 1997 in Las Vegas. He passed away quietly in their home on October 1, 2022.

Charlie graduated from Spaulding High School in 1961, where he was voted as having the best physique (out of 8 people). From high school Charlie went to beauty school and worked as a beautician, he worked at Covey’s in Holdenville, he worked on the pipeline, later he moved to Colorado to work as a ranch hand. While in Colorado Charlie was drafted into the Army.

Charlie served proudly from 1967 to 1969 and during that time he was sent to the war in Vietnam. While there he was wounded and received the two Purple Hearts and three Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf clusters.

After his tour of duty, he returned to Colorado to work on the ranch. He then attended a body and fender school and had his own business in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Charlie returned to Oklahoma and went to work at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant on the production line. He then worked for the Navy and painted missiles. Charles retired in 2001 After Charlie retired, he and his wife established the Akin Ass Ranch where they raised mommath donkeys and mules. His favorite mule was named Romeo and his favorite dog was Yeller.

Charlie’s greatest pleasures were his grandchildren. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping, and he absolutely loved cheering at this grandc hildren’s ballgames. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hensley Akin, and his mother Nora Lee Byerly Akin; sister-in-law Pat Akin; and nephew Larry Akin.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Akin of the home; children, Charolette Magill and friend Chip Novelo of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Chris Akin and wife Becky of Marion, Indiana, Robert Akin and wife Amanda of Holdenville, Keri Brines of McAlester, Jennifer Arthur and husband Brian of Goldsby; grandchildren Christopher McMahan, Chelsea McMahan, William Magill, Philip Akin and wife Liv, Kristina Akin, Nicole Akin, Jacob Stacy and wife Anna, Charles Akin II, Chole Akin, Brayden Arthur, Kole Arthur, Hunter Parker and wife Bethany, and Fisher Parker; greatgrandchildren Miles Stacey, Mason Parker, Ava Parker, and Anna Parker; and brother Robert Hensley Akin Jr. of Holdenville.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmie Jett officiating.
