HUGHES COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – A Wetumka woman was killed in a crash in Hughes County on Friday afternoon, December 6. Eva Nowicki, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on State Highway 9, just outside of Wetumka, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol news release.

THE OKLAHOMA ASSOCIATION OF CONSERVATION DISTRICTS hosted the Area V Speech Contest in McAlester on November 18th at Kiamichi Technology Center. Geralyn Haney represented Hughes County and was chosen as the winner of Division I.

Donna Taylor, who is known locally for Taylor Made Signs, retired in 2005. She and husband Tony travel across Oklahoma to car shows. Mrs. Taylor is the proud owner of a 1929 Essex. She calls it her “DiVinci”. She thought about selling it but knows she will never be able to find another one like it.

Thanks to Emma Lee and Cecil Duncan, a weekly late-night showing called the “Prevue” would one day become an essential part of life in Wetumka. It was especially popular with the dating crowd and young marrieds, whom the Duncans surely had in mind from the start.

Oliphant Ranch to be Restocked With Sheep From Texas Extensive Purchases Made of Sheep and Cattle by Ranch Owner Extensive sheep and cattle purchases tending toward the restocking of the old Oliphant ranch in northern Hughes County, were announced Friday by County Agent Henry F.

Next Saturday will be December 7th , a day we used to just call “Pearl Harbor Day.” It was on this date in 1941 that America was brutally attacked in Hawaii by Japanese bombers that started World War II. Not many living Americans are old enough to remember this event.
