Thanks to a lot of folks working very hard there will be a Sucker Day and also a Sucker Day Parade. It is going to be a fun-filled day for all ages. According to Sucker Day Chairman Amy Leader the parade will start at 11:00.

Wetumka Public Schools decided to lock down after it was heard on the scanner that two men with guns were seen on Helen Street heading west away from the school. I immediately put the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Here are the facts from the 911 Board in response to the questions raised by the Mayor of Wetumka 1. Wetumka was represented on the 911 Board of Trustees until the current Mayor stated that he wanted nothing to do with the 911 Board and Central Dispatch, stating “Wetumka has its own 911 center.

A little more than a year and a half ago, several individuals with ties to the Stuart area formed the Stuart Historical Society. Their goal was to preserve and protect the history of this small town located in rural Hughes County.

Several weeks ago the Stuart Historical Society received an old newspaper clipping. The article, published March 8, 1961, in the Ada Evening News, told the story of a Stuart man who was celebrating his 93rd birthday. His birthday was not what was remarkable about James “Jim” Monroe Wiles.

A benefit concert and dinner will be held next Saturday, September 21st , for the Carlton Family of Calvin. The meal will be served in the school cafeteria from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and followed by the concert in the school auditorium at 7:00 pm.

Wes Watkins Technology Center will be hosting an Adult Health Programs recruitment “Luau” event on September 26th  from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Building 400, located on WWTC’s campus. There will be free food, games, and information given to those who are interested in applying.

An Atwood woman was listed in critical condition as a result of a three-vehicle collision in Hughes County Saturday morning, September 14.

The Wetumka City Council held their regular meeting on September 9, 2019. Council members present included, June Fixico, Norma Marshall, Randy Hinckley, Rebecca Jackson, James Jackson and City Attorney, John Baca. The city managers report was given by Mr. Jackson.
