Stuart teachers named finalists

Two Stuart High School teachers will be honored at the Professional Oklahoma Educators Foundation Excellence in Education Awards Banquet to be held on April 12 in Oklahoma City.

Early voting starts today (Thursday)

Early voting begins Thursday at the Hughes County Court House. The election board will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday March 28th and Friday March 29. They will also be open on Saturday March 30th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday April 2nd all precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Motel Tax Already on City books?

A local citizen has found that the motel tax which was defeated last year was still placed in the City Code. It can be found in the city ordinances under 3-2B-3: Tax Rate. To date there has been no explanation for why this happened.

More bad news for Holdenville

Amid growing concern over the city’s $70,000,000 debt on the lake project there was still more bad news this past week when the lowest bid on the proposed new dam was over $2,000,000 more than the estimate.

Holdenville Creek Indian Community May Arts & Crafts

The Holdenville (Creek) Indian Community Center will be having a “May Arts & Crafts” on May 4th , 2019. The doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for Vendor setup. Deadline for booth space reservation is April 26th , 2019. Sale begins at 9:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m. There is no charge for Vendors.

Boots & Bows Square Dance Club News

Thank you, Bill Powell, for a great St. Patrick dance on March 2.  It was our only dance at the club house this month. We had lots of good music and line dancing. Bill, I know some of us were challenging but you just kept on calling.  What a great guy!

Lamar News

The Senior Citizens of Lamar have enjoyed a couple of events recently. On March 14th they had a domino tournament at the Lamar Community Center. The participants were Sue Slater, Joyce Burton, Charlotte Miller and Justeen McCoy.

Wetumka School Board Meets

The Wetumka Board of Education held their regular meeting, March 4, 2019. The following members, administrators, and personnel were present: Donna McGee, Rufus Scott, John Curtis, Allen Poole, and Susan Tyra. Board members Donnie Williamson, and Brad Burton were absent.
