The Oklahoma Historical Society Black Heritage Committee met in Clearview at the Main Street Community Center in the OAAE Hall of Fame Room to discuss upcoming plans for the year 2019. The committee is one of the subcommittees of the Oklahoma Historical Society Board of Directors.

In November, Holdenville voters turned down a resolution that would add a 5% tax on our two hotels and one bed and breakfast. The Holdenville City Council now believes that if they had not used the words “sales tax” in the resolution, it would have passed.

After decades of picking up the trash in the alley, the City has decided to change the location to the street. Sanitation Supervisor Lonnie Barker said he has been working for some time to have the trash pickup on the streets instead of the alleys.

The Holdenville Police Department announced that effective January 10, 2019, all dogs in city limits must be tagged. Although they will not be going door-to-door to see if your dog is tagged, if your animal is recovered by Animal Control, you will be cited for this in addition to dog-at-large.

Christmas Party For our Christmas party, Sue Wood, our hostess, decided on having homemade soup and sandwiches.  Yum! Calvary Baptist Church opened their fellowship hall to us.  Glenda Stinson decorated the tables with white table cloths with candy canes and poinsettias.

Maxie Carter and Flo Shirley Howard, both former Holdenville residents exchanged wedding vows on November 10, 2018. The wedding was held at sunset on Christmas Island in Rock A Way Beach, Missouri. Dozens of lighted Christmas trees and other displays made a very beautiful and awesome setting.
